Lucknow Metro Phase 1B will consist of 11.165 km of metro, with 12 stops, including seven underground stations and five elevated stations. Once opened, the phase will bring the total operational metro from 22.9 km to 34 km across the city.

The Lucknow Metro Rail will, for the first time, cut through the crowded and historic Old Lucknow region, where stops will link Aminabad, Yahiyaganj, Pandeyganj, and Chowk. The route will link King George’s Medical University and allow people to use the metro at historical monuments and significant sites such as Bara Imambara, Chotta Imambara, Rumi Darwaza, the Clock Tower, Bhool Bhulaiya, and local hotspots for kebabs and chaat.

Lucknow Metro Phase 1B Proposed Stations:

  • Underground: Charbagh, Gautam Buddha Marg, Aminabad, Pandeyganj, City Railway Station, Medical Chauraha, Chowk
  • Elevated: Thakurganj, Balaganj, Sarfarazganj, Moosabagh, Vasant Kunj

Officials are emphasising how the project bad traffic jams, notably across the narrow roads. It will cut down on carbon emissions—offering a greener alternative to petrol and diesel vehicles. The increased connectivity to airports, railway stations, and bus stations is expected to boost local business, attract investors, and provide a better experience for visitors in the city.

Lucknow Metro Phase 1B is being viewed as a social equaliser—providing residents of all income brackets with affordable and reliable mobility that reduces travel time, providing better access to jobs, health care, and educational opportunities.

When completed, the Lucknow Metro Phase 1B will deliver a combination of Lucknow’s Nawabi heritage with modernised mobility, while also strengthening its position as a cultural, economic and sustainable city.
