In a groundbreaking move, Lucknow University (LU) is set to partner with the National Defence Academy (NDA) to offer lateral academic entry for cadets who are unable to complete their military training, often referred to as “boarded-out cadets.” The collaboration aims to ensure academic continuity for these individuals, enabling them to pursue higher education and alternative career paths.

The announcement, made during LU’s recent convocation ceremony, highlights the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two prestigious institutions. Lucknow University’s wide array of academic programs, many of which align with the courses offered at NDA, makes it an ideal choice for cadets seeking a seamless transition to civilian education.
This initiative also aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP), emphasizing inclusivity and knowledge sharing. It not only opens new avenues for boarded-out cadets but also strengthens the educational synergy between the two institutions.
Boarded-out cadets often leave the military academy due to medical, psychological, or other reasons that disqualify them from continuing rigorous training. Through this partnership, they can now leverage their foundational training at NDA to build successful civilian careers, marking a significant step in holistic education reform.
